Cottage Garden, Bude

Following a complete renovation of their period cottage on the outskirts of Bude, the clients wanted a large garden that reflected the property’s modern updates while honouring its history.

The resulting design features a clean, geometric layout sympathetic to the original house, utilizing reclaimed materials and soft, floriferous planting. Built using reclaimed brick to match the original boundary walls, new low retaining walls, steps, and lawn edging anchor the space beautifully within its rural village environment.

As the client is an enthusiastic gardener, the design incorporates generous herbaceous borders for seasonal flowers, neatly enclosed by traditional low-clipped box hedging. Wide pathways, a large square lawn, a timber pergola, and a centrepiece raised brick pond all work together to deliver a bold, structured view from the house to be enjoyed year-round.
