Cottage Garden, Bude

Having recently renovated and modernised their period cottage on the outskirts of Bude in Cornwall; the client wanted to re-design the large garden to reflect these improvements to the property as a whole.

Paul designed a geometric garden to reflect the modernisation of the property but using reclaimed materials and soft, florivorous planting to create a cottage style sympathetic to the original house. Using reclaimed brick to match the original boundary walls; new low retaining walls, steps, a central pond and lawn edging was built and laid. This allowed the garden to sit comfortably with its wider rural village environment.

An enthusiastic gardener, the client wanted plenty of large herbaceous borders for growing seasonal flowers, all neatly enclosed by traditional low clipped box hedging. Wide paths and a large square lawn with centrepiece raised brick pond and large timber pergola all work together to create a bold design as viewed from the house, to enjoy year round.
